Aston Villa v Wolves – 26th March 1960

In 1960, Wolves, defending league champions, were aiming for the double. In the semi-final of the FA Cup they were drawn against local rivals Aston Villa. The match took place at the Hawthorns just ‘down the road’ from both clubs so the atmosphere was electric.

Manchester United v Liverpool – 24th April 1965

In the 1964-65 season, Manchester Utd were at the top of their game. Their rivalry with Liverpool was not so intense in the 1960s but nonetheless the Merseysiders would still have been keen to put a dent in United’s title aspirations. Denis Law and Co. had different ideas.

Stoke v Manchester City – 1st February 1975

The early to mid 1970s was the purple patch in Stoke City’s history. They were in third place in the First Division when they played Manchester City in February 1975. It would become one of their finest performances and, in particular, very much the Alan Hudson show.
